Types

  • String (on-grid) inverter – one inverter for all panels; economical and common.
  • Micro-inverters – one per panel; better with partial shading, higher cost.
  • Hybrid inverter – supports batteries for backup.
  • Off-grid inverter – battery-based, no grid connection.

Sizing

Inverter AC capacity is usually close to the panel DC capacity; a modest DC oversizing is common. Your DISCOM may limit the inverter capacity relative to sanctioned load.
